Beedie, D. (2017). The Lumberjack’s beard. Massachusetts: Templar Books.
Overview: A burly lumberjack sets out to complete his job of chopping down trees and sending them to the mill. It takes him several days to complete the whole process. During each step he encounters an animal that he has displaced from its home because he chopped down their home. First is a bird, then a porcupine and then a beaver. He decides to help each animal by giving them a new home in his beard. Eventually he becomes fed up with the animals living in his beard and comes up with another solution. By the end of the book he has decided to plant more trees instead of cutting them down. A great book for the introduction to discussing conservation of nature.
