Beeny, E. (2017). Hector the collector. New York: Roaring Press.
Overview: Hector starts collecting acorns that he finds around town and school. The acorns he finds and keeps are all different. He keeps his collection in his desk at school. One day the teacher does desk checks and discovers his collection. At first he is embarrassed and the other kids make judgments about it. The teacher helps guide the class to appreciate his collection and talk about other collections they might have. This is a great book to use when talking about properties of objects. The author’s notes at the end of the book talks about how museums hold collections that belong to other people allowing others to appreciate their treasures. As a class students could bring in collections that they have at home to share and a class museum could be created in order to learn about each students collection.
